the courtyard design in Hargeisa.
Hargeisa is a highland capital with a mild, dry climate and cooler nights than the coast. For construction, the milder highland air means less salt exposure than the coast, so standard finishes and frames last well, while the cooler nights make good roof insulation worth the cost.

04 / Your questions
Before we begin.
What does a courtyard add in Hargeisa?
Light and a cross-breeze into the rooms around it, with a shaded, private space at the centre.
What should I consider when planning a house in Hargeisa?
Hargeisa is a highland capital with a mild, dry climate and cooler nights than the coast. The milder highland air means less salt exposure than the coast, so standard finishes and frames last well, while the cooler nights make good roof insulation worth the cost.
Why use a courtyard in a hot climate?
It lets the house breathe and gives shaded outdoor space without a large plot.
